The East End Fox

What do foxes eat?

How do they identify their prey?

Are they swift and nimble?

Like foxes, me and The Mary are versatile and we are, maybe not so nimble, but we are able to identify decent food and have superb strategies to sniff out the best scran. Like these bright, red species we hunt under the cover of aged munchers!

Me and The Mary are shifting from town to the Upper East End

Tonight, she’s leaving the kits to fend for themselves while we get foxy in Garrowhill, sniffing out what the Upper East Side has to offer.

Chatting in the car The Mary says I’m like a fox and in her words,

“Most of the time you’re a solitary mammal but can also be a night-time predator and, like a fox, some fear you, but I think your quite a friendly animal. Foxes send messages by making up to 40 different sounds, but I think you only have the one…

and it’s annoyingly shrill!”

Like a fox I may, just give her a rabid smack down before we even have the chance to get our jaws round our prey.

We’re off to The East End Fox which opened in October, and we’ve heard fantastic things about it. Chef Ferrier Richardson has taken on the former Barrachnie Inn and is a great addition to the growing number of gastronomic delights in this part of the town. Ferrier gained his reputation as executive chef at The Buttery and Rogano but for the past 15 years he’s been working as a Private Chef, travelling the world, before returning to live with his wife, Anne Marie.

In the style of a Gastro pub, I am hoping for a delicious dinner bearing in mind the last time we tried a pub in Dennistoun The Mary said it was more ‘gastro enteritis’ than ‘hoate’ cuisine.

Result!

When we walked in there was a really vibrant atmosphere and we were greeted immediately by Gary who took us to our seats.

Our server Holly was so cheery and delightful I’m afraid we kept her off her work by chatting but her service was impeccable. She is a gorgeous girl and hopefully Ivy will be joining her before Christmas!

The food was absolutely delicious and the steak pie was the best I’ve had since the last one I had. I do need to say, the East End, generally, does steak pie very well. The Mary had the mince and tatties which, she assured me was nearly as good as her’s!

Prices are reasonable and the toilets were clean and in perfect, working order.

The Mary sometimes gets annoyed at me because I visit the WC as soon as we arrive anywhere. They are the second thing I check and quite often we’ve had to leave a venue after my visit to ‘the cludgie’!

In case you’re interested, ‘The local Talent’ is my first consideration.

On the way home The Mary decided I was more like a wolf because, when I eat, I’m messier than a two year old.

I think the East End Fox would be an ideal venue for a Wee Wedding!

All in all I would give The East End Fox

  1. I’m so glad you & The Mary tried here and provided a great review! I can’t wait to try it!
If the mince & tatties is almost as good as The Mary’s, high praise indeed 🙂
