Was there an estate?

How will you pay for the funeral?

What help is available?

7 things you should know!

  1. If there is any money left in the deceased’s estate then funeral costs can be deducted before funds are released.
  2. ‘Estate’ includes money, property and personal belongings
  3. Costs for a funeral include, doctors certificate, burial plot or cremation fees, cost of travel to the funeral, cost of removal and storage of the body, basic casket, death certificate and other documents required by law.
  4. Funeral directors also need to be paid but some have special packages which are very basic.
  5. Funeral Support packages do not account for ‘extras’.
  6. Extras can include flowers, a celebrant and extra cars.
  7. A purvey can be arranged but is not considered essential if benefits are being claimed from the Scottish Government.
