7 Things you should know!

1. Worth, dignity and autonomy of the individual and the right of every human being to the greatest possible freedom. Duty of care to all of humanity including future generations. Concern for others, needing no external sanction.

2. Seeks to use science creatively. Find solutions rather than wait for divine intervention. Science and technology tempered with human values. We need to adapt to function to the needs of the individual.

3. The support of democracy and human rights and not restricted by governments and the methods and beliefs of a higher authority.

4. Personal liberty must be combined with social responsibility. Although we are strong is individuals we must also recognise our dependence on and responsibility for the natural world. No dogma should impose a creed upon us to adhere though our education system.

5. Ideas should not be fixed and we should be open to change through knowledge, observation and evaluation of what’s happening around us.

6. Artistic creativity and imagination should be recognised and respected through giving importance to art, music, theatre and literature and what is expressed through these mediums. Personal development is the mainstay of my job as an English and Drama teacher.

7. Living and ethical and creative life through rational thought and action should be the way forward to address the challenges of our times. Humanism is the foundation of individuality!
