How charitable are charities?
When does the positive outweigh the negative?
Who are they helping?
Recently, I saw a post by a well known charity stating; Time to Party!
They do amazing work for disadvantaged children and, I thought, I may, in some way, be able to enhance the life of a child whilst having an absolute ball. I felt excited and quickly sent a message to the content owner on Instagram.
Such Fun!
This was his reply!
“Hi there, it would be very difficult to fit one-person in.
All tables of 10 at the moment. If there were a few of you – we could try?
Hope you are well.”

My fun loving bubble was detonated and burst into the stratosphere. The awareness of my request for one seat being met with such a tepid rebuke, stating it was, ‘very difficult’ to ‘fit’ me in!
To a room the size of, well, a ballroom, seemed ludicrous!
The cool reply had me thinking about starting my own charity. The one where individuals can be a cog in the well, oiled wheel which keeps cash flowing towards those in need. Making a difference, one ticket at a time. Create a massive table of ‘stragglers’ and bring them together in a Unity of Existence with all being equal and as of one, with unified power to do good!
I go to many events on my own and, more often than not, book a table for one and have seldom felt unwelcome. In this instance, a charity was prepared to be uncharitable to the lonely contributor and it made me feel frustrated and sad.
To be a charity, an organisation needs to have benevolent intentions. If there are any negative or unpleasant consequences of the work they do, it must be outweighed by the generous and positive outcome. I can see how my, one ticket request, presented a negative towards the aim of filling the room with the alternative ‘tables of 10. They were making the best choice for their cause.
As long as there is value to a demographic or geographic area’ then all else comes secondary and should never shift the focus from the intended benefactors; be they the charity, trust or company. Depending on whether it is a charity or a non-profit organisation.
May I say charity work is always good PR!
Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren’t any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn’t be here in the first place.
And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life’s challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world.
In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person.

I did go to the website and there are still tickets available but my disillusionment has overshadowed any joy I may have had in attending!
