Santa Lucia

From the master of lyrics Caruso…

‘Tu sei l’impero dell’armonia!’

You are the kingdom of harmony,

This week I went on a gastronomic journey along the Amalfi Coast to Santal Lucia and it was a delightful experience!

From the moment we entered this, ‘fairly’ new, den of delight in Merchant City my senses were ignited. From the aesthetics of the simple, yet chic, interior to the easy on the eye (are we allowed to say that?), efficient and friendly staff, it was a wonderful experience. The main colour of the décor reminded me of the Mediterranean sea, in the evening, when its deep, bluish, turquoise, waves wash over the memories of a day on the beach.

Like a silver star shining on the ocean, it was refreshing to enter the simplistic, but very chic, eatery which is streamlined, classy and very welcoming. Naples and the Amalfi Coast is steeped in culinary tradition and I’ve had some of the best food I’ve ever tasted there; I wondered how this, almost clinically, modern restaurant could recreate a dish which would live up to my very traditional expectation.

They did it with panache!

There’s a delicious selection of cuisine, inspired by the dishes of Southern Italy. I spent time in Naples when I lived in Puglia where I learned to cook under the careful watch of my pugliese Mother in Love.

My expectations of Italian food are high.

You can choose from Lunch, Evening and A La Carte menus and we choose to eat from the latter.

The BRUSCHETTA CLASSICA (V) £6
This Chargrilled sourdough Italian bread with cherry tomatoes,
basil and extra virgin olive oil was tasty, crisp and seasoned to perfection.

The PACCHERI AL RAGU DI CINGHIALE £10
The Tube pasta with boar ragu had me running for a spear in order to aim andrecreate this for my friends and family. I don’t want to bore you but where can I buy wild boar in Glasgow?

Cannolo siciliano £6
A Tube shaped pastry with sweet, sheep ricotta was done with chocolate chips and pistachio
crumble. My favourite version of this ‘dolce’ is from Bar Vitelli in Savoca near Taormina in Sicily and this one was up there with that. A little less sugar and it would have been perfect!

It hit all the tender taste buds after passing my critical lips!

It was Fantastico!
