Celebrants – Knowledge

Who do you want to do your ceremony?

Celebrant are required to be inclusive and diplomatic?

Why is compassion important?

Being tactful and listening to what the client wants is absolutely crucial in the first instance. Once you know exactly what is required being creative, although an important skill, the way in which the ceremony is conducted must be fundamentally based on the wishes of the client’s concept, beliefs and emotional intent in the planning of the ceremony. Being in control of how the ceremony progresses and dealing with a diverse group from different walks of life and being respectful to customs and attitudes is essential.

One would need to be very diplomatic even if you think initially what a client wants may not be the right way forward careful guidance needs to be considered but it is their decision which must come first and foremost. With diplomacy, understanding and compassion a celebrant needs to make them feel at ease towards an event which meets all of their expectations in both their esthetic and emotional needs.

A good knowledge of venues in the area you are working and what permissions they have regarding licensing and numbers they can accommodate would be helpful. If a venue can be adapted to the type of ceremony they require, such as location, numbers and whether it is an exchange of vows or a legal registry service is important to location. Also some people may wish to have an outdoor ceremony and weather is unpredictable so there would need to be an alternative to this such as taking this ceremony indoors or the use of tents or Gazebos. All things are possible but the advice of the celebrant needs to be informative and inventive.
