What are you saying YES too?
We’ve all had a tough year and need to make the most of the time we have left. Young people can look forward and plan for a future however uncertain it may seem but what about the older generation.
Personally I feel robbed!
2020 robbed us of fun, possibility, time with family, meeting new people and most of all the closeness, the human contact which is so important to feeling connected cannot be underestimated. To experience skin on skin with another human being; the basic, natural instinct to connect may now cause fear and anxiety. If we are not able to hug a familiar being how do we cope with new relationships?
On my way into 2121 I’ve decided to say yes to everything within law and physical ability.
Social media has been wonderful and I found myself spending more time chatting in messenger and making short videos to connect and try to replicate rapport with ‘my people’, at a distance. Then as the doors opened and we were ‘free’, but still limited, I felt a barrier had been created, a fear of breaking the rules.
Have we become victims of the ‘new normal’.
The empty promises of “Let’s meet for a coffee,” “I can’t wait to see you!” and “It’s been too long.” may have become excuses for many to stay safely within the rules. Don’t get me wrong, lockdown, for me, was a chance to reflect and consider who will matter in my now limited time based on the new, restrictive order of society.
Recently when someone says to me, “We need to meet!” I pin them down, I ask when? I get a date in my diary. In the recent past I’ve met people I connected with on Facebook and it’s been fresh and invigorating. There was no chat of the past because we didn’t have this in common, only a freeway into a new friendship.
Nothing will replace what we had but now we have been forced to adapt in order to function in a new reality and I’m going to make the most of it!
So, I say YES to the future whatever it may look like I’ll be in it connecting in real time with veracity and verve! 2021 shall be a new start and I’m at the line for a last run at this one, beautiful life we have been gifted with!
2021 I’m coming to get you!
