Coming out of the dark!
I’m still apprehensive about going out and will only do so if I need to and sometimes this ‘need’ is to share food and company. It’s been sad to see, the Glasgow I love, so quiet and still but it’s starting to come alive.
If we see this as a renaissance and embrace the ‘new normal’ while supporting independent businesses we will emerge with a core which is stronger than ever!
I visited Kastriot’s Mediterranean Bar & Grill in Bailleston and it was as vibrant and welcoming as ever. We felt safe and everything, from entering to settling the bill had been put in place to ensure guidelines are followed, without affecting service.
Based in the East End of Glasgow it has been one of my favourites since it opened almost 4 years ago and it is now a place East Enders have proudly taken ownership of and call their own. If you are craving authentic, freshly made, Greek and Mediterranean food then this multi-award winning, food heaven will not disappoint!

Friends, family and good food are the main ingredients for health and happiness. We have all been lacking in human connection with the outside world and stepping into Kind Kastriot’s ensures a warm welcome with efficient, charming staff who have been there from the beginning.
As well as Authentic Greek and cuisine they offer a wide range of food options including pizza, risotto, healthy salads and pasta. I opted for a healthy option of Chicken Souvlaki Skewers of fresh chicken marinated in olive oil, lemon, garlic and oregano served with a small salad and fried chips which at £11.95 is a steal. It was freshly cooked, delicious and healthy.
Having been stuck at home, stagnant and to be honest a bit unstable it was an added bonus to meet Kastriot’s family, who greet everyone with such warm and kindness you feel part of something very special. This is what makes them stand out; they remember you, chat, make you feel a part of this food community they’ve created in the East End of Glasgow. In the present, unknown and uneasy climate we need to feel as real and human as possible.
See you next time!
